Cultural Association

When the school opened its doors for the first time in 1973, it was already called Ar.Co. From a marketing viewpoint, the name was considered a poor choice until Eduardo Trigo de Sousa came up with the idea of inserting a dot between the R and C. The legal entity behind the name was the public limited liability company SEARCO. The cultural association Ar.Co-Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual was created on 22 January 1975. The first members were the following friends, students and collaborators: António Castelo, António Paulo Rato, Artur Rosa, Aurélio Bentes e Bravo, Carlos Olavo Corrêa Azevedo, Eduardo Talhadas do Vale, Eduardo Trigo de Sousa, Fernando Alçada, Gaëtan, Graça Costa Cabral, José Luís d’Orey, Manuel Costa Cabral, Maria Ana Cabral Moncada, Sérgio Pessoa and Waldemar d’Orey.
