Kammen - An Art Collection of Combs

On the occasion of Marzee Gallery’s (Nijmegen, Holland) 10th anniversary, Marie-José van den Hout invites artists/jewellers from numerous countries to create a simple object: a comb. The idea produces a massive quantity of answers (from the USA, Holland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, among other countries) and the exhibition “Kammen - An Art Collection of Combs” opens in 1989 on various places in Nijmegen (Marzee Gallery included), before starting on an international tour. The Portuguese presence is ensured by jewellers connected to Ar.Co, most of them ex-students: António Armindo, Paula Crespo, Cristina Filipe, Madalena Avellar, Fausto Guilherme, Helena Henriques, Manuel Júlio, Maria Alexandra Lisboa, Marilia Maria Mira, Cristina Melo, Zélia Nobre, Filomeno Pereira de Sousa, Alexandra de Serpa Pimentel, Tereza Seabra, Augusto Silva and Zambeze Almeida.
