Scholarships

Under Portugal’s Patronage Law, a scholarship program for students attending Ar.Co’s full courses is set up in 1989 with fundraising campaigns directed at the private sector. These scholarships permit a substantial reduction in annual tuition fees and partially sponsor the production costs of the Scholarship Students & Finalists Exhibitions. Between 1994/95 and 1999, the program also includes special annual grants for Ar.Co’s Library/Documentation Centre. Financial support reaches a very high retention rate among companies and private sponsors and 234 scholarships are awarded between 1989-2013. In 2017 the board decides to create one yearly scholarship, financed by the school, in hounour of its co-founder Graça Costa Cabral, who passed away in 2016. The Graça Costa Cabral Scholarship provides 100% of the actual tuition fee for one selected student enroled in one of the advanced programs. Also in 2017, an agreement between Ar.Co and the PT Foundation (later to become Altice Foundation) establishes an Artistic Training Scholarship program that will allow 5 students to benefit from finantial aid in the school year 2017/2018. This will become the first instance of a program specifically design to accept candidates in need of financial aid while in last year of the Basic Courses (2nd or 3rd year of Ar.Co’s Regular Program, depending on the department). As part of the agreement, Carla Guerreiro, Helder Nogueira, Rafael Pérez, Maria Alice Martins e Alejandra Escobar exhibit their work in 2018 at the Altice Space Andrade Corvo in Lisbon. The Altice Foundation Artistic Training Scholarship is subsequently renovated for the school year 2018/2019.
